10 Things To Do In Amsterdam In September

As summer isn’t over yet, it’s time for some late summer events in Amsterdam; go and check out the 10 things to do in Amsterdam in September!

1. Foodnight Javastraat

Imagine you are at a night market in Kuala Lumpur, Marrakech or Hong Kong. Submerge in the stir, people, scents, food and music. This is what the street food event at the Javastraat is all about. The street is a mixture of cultures, hotspots, neighborhood supermarkets and small vegetable stalls. It is located in the heart of the Indische Buurt (Indian Neighborhood). Taste the couscous, flame grilled beef, paella and some fine Italian wine. Do not skip the desert!

2. Dutch Theatre Festival

At various locations around the Leidseplein you can view the best theatre productions during the Dutch Theatre Festival. The ten highlights of the theatre season will be performed in the Stadsschouwburg, Theatre Bellevue and De Krakeling.

3. 24H South East

Amsterdam can be divided in different areas. 24H gives you the opportunity to explore these neighborhoods. The South East side of the centre is opening its doors to everyone who wants to explore this part of Amsterdam. Walk through the Rietpark, join a yoga class or enroll for a dance workshop.

4. Heritage Days

Fanciful architectural styles, wavy fronts, graceful brickwork. Take a good look around in Amsterdam and you will see it all. But have you ever seen the insides of the buildings? The Heritage Days is one of the biggest cultural events of the Netherlands. Over 5.000 unique monuments open their doors.

5. On the Roof Film Festival

Want to watch a movie and enjoy a spectacular view over Amsterdam? It is possible at the On the Roof Film Festival! On the roof of the Free University building you can view the latest world cinema movies. This year’s subject is sustainability. Complete you night out with drinks on the roof and dinner at Il Caffè.

6. City Swim & Dam tot Damloop

For the sportsmen or women there are two major events in September. The first one is the City Swim. This event is for charity. People are swimming in the Amsterdam canals to collect money for the incurable disease ALS. Two weeks later at the Dam tot Damloop 35.000 contestants will run 10 English Miles from the heart of Amsterdam to Zaandam. When you do not like to run, you can also join one of the bike routes. Or just go an cheer for the participants.

7. Valtifest

There are festivals and there is Valtifest. Think outrageous, craziness and innovatory. This year is for the Artifarti people! Valtifest guarantees a great line-up with dance, electro, house, dubstep, hip-hop and punk. Dress up or watch the rest of the audience and see the most extreme outfits.

8. Hiswa in-water boat show

Each year, the first week of September watersport companies organize a huge boat event, the HISWA. Go and check out the luxurious yachts, sailboats, but also rubber dinghies. Stroll through the docks of the Amsterdam Marina. There are around 250 boats from Dutch and international ship yards.

9. Five Brothers Fat

The first Dutch Champagneria is a fact! The idea started in Barcelona. Eating tapas, drinking cava, chatting with the people at the bar. What a nice atmosphere! A Spanish bar with an Amsterdam twist.
