It is May! The month with a lot of public holidays. So lots of time to check out the 10 things to do in Amsterdam.

1. Strandzuid

Every year in Summer a beach arises in Amsterdam. Picture beach chairs, cocktails, BBQ and of course a lot of sand. Love to sunbath while sipping a nice drink? Definitely go and pay a visit to Strandzuid. This year it is completely renewed. The grand opening is on the 12th of May.

2. Food Truck Festival Rollende Keukens

Calling all foodies! On the weekend of Ascension Day all mobile food trucks will head to the Westergast area. There they will form one big open air restaurant. You can eat all sorts of food; like pulled pork, waffles, healthy drinks, gastronomic deli, grilled burgers and so on. Only the smell of all that good food will make you want to eat!

3. Liberation Day: 5 May

On the 5th of May we celebrate our freedom. It is the day the German army surrendered in 1945 and WWII came to an end. On 5 May there are various activities and events planned. Think of festivals, open air cinemas, freedom meals, street dinners and concerts. Let’s celebrate freedom, democracy and human rights!

4. World Press Photo

Did you know that a number of 4 million people are visiting the World Press Photo exhibition each year? The exhibition is shown in various places over the world and in summer the exhibitions travels to Amsterdam. So come and have a look at these impressive pics. 5. 24H New West

The 24H events give you the opportunity to explore new areas in Amsterdam. Go and have a look at New West. This is a new and upcoming district with a lot of creativity and culture. Try out different things like wall climbing, bio workshops and poetry master classes during 24H New West.

6. Vondelpark Open Air Theatre

In the center of the famous Vondelpark you can find the Vondelpark Open Air Theatre. It’s very popular among locals and tourists. The theatre is free of charge and for 75% of the performances language is no problem. During summer every Friday, Saturday and Sunday there is a varied programme of modern dance, standup comedy and music.

7. Loetje

Say steak, say Loetje. Loetje is one of Amsterdam’s most famous restaurants and as you might have guessed they are masters in preparing steaks. Loetje started over fourty years ago as a café where people could play pool. They served easy dishes. Soon after that more and more people wanted to come and eat at Loetje. Now they have opened thirteen locations. Do try their clove steak where they are famous for.

8.Lapjesmarkt

At the lapjesmarkt you will find all different kinds of fabric. Multiple colors, different patterns, everything you can imagine. Worth mentioning: the fabrics are very cheap! Walk around and also take a look at the nice facades of the typical Amsterdam houses.

9. Hemeltjelief Festival

On Ascension Day there is a colourful festival for all ages in the NDSM forest. Be creative and enjoy the food, the drinks and the music.
