1. Banksy & Warhol

Art lovers this one is for you! Amsterdam has a new modern art museum called MOCO an abbreviation for Modern Contemporary Museum. It opened its doors on 9 April with two exhibitions: ‘Bansky: Laugh Now‘ and ‘Andy Warhol: Royal‘. With over 80 pieces of street artist Banksy and pop art-legend Andy Warhol there’s plenty to see like – one of the showpieces – Banksy’s canvas ‘Beanfield’.

Every year on 5 May, the Netherlands celebrate Liberation Day as it marks the end of the occupation of the Netherlands by Germany during the Second World War (on 4 May we commemorate the dead with a 2 minute silence at 8pm). Everywhere in the Netherlands various activities and events are planned, because it’s a day to celebrate freedom. Think of festivals, open air cinemas, freedom meals, street dinners and concerts. In Amsterdam there are numerous activities too with for example with the very popular Liberation Festival. Let’s celebrate freedom, democracy and human rights!

We already knew that it is nice to shop in Amsterdam (just think of the so-called Nine Streets (Negen Straatjes) and the PC Hoofstraat). But now it is official! The Czaar Peterstraat in Amsterdam has been voted to be the best shopping street of the Netherlands. It is a typical Amsterdam street with specialised stores, bars and restaurants. A nice way to spend your afternoon. One special store will be opening here soon: next month they have the scoop of the first peanut butter store!

6. Foodtruck Festival Rollende Keukens

Foodies get ready for the Foodtruck Festival Rollende Keukens! During the weekend of Ascension Day, 12-16 May, all mobile food trucks will head to the Westergastfabriek area. There they will form one big open air restaurant. You can eat all sorts of food; like pulled pork, waffles, healthy drinks, gastronomic deli, grilled burgers and so much more. Only the smell of all that good food will make you want to eat!

More than 4 million people visit the World Press Photo Exhibition each year. Before touring the world, the World Press Photo Exhibition kicks off in Amsterdam. 41 Winners of 21 countries will compete in eight different categories. The project Streets of the World is new this year. It’s definitely worth a visit as you can see images from daily life from all over the world.
