10 Things To Do In Amsterdam In July

It’s July! The sun is out and there plenty of things to do in Amsterdam. From food festivals to exhibitions, concerts and more it’s all about the summer vibes: we love them! Its the perfect mood for the 10 things to do in Amsterdam.

1. Rineke Dijkstra: An Ode

The Stedelijk Museum has opened its doors for an exhibition of internationally know Dutch photographer Rineke Dijkstra. In addition to photographs you can also watch videos by this artist at the Rineke Dijkstra: An Ode exhibition. As a teaser, the exhibition contains three works which have never been displayed in the Netherlands. Later this year she will also exhibit in other European counties, but first in Amsterdam.

2. Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek

It’s the fashion party of Amsterdam; the Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek Amsterdam. A must go for all fashion lovers or if you love to spot people. Don’t worry if you don’t have any tickets as some of the events are free for the public and you can also buy a ticket for one of the fashion shows. There is a lot of Dutch talent. So go and have a look and put it on your list.

3. Keti Koti Festival

Foodies get ready for the Keti Koti festival. This festival celebrates the abolition of slavery in Suriname (a former Dutch colony) on 1 July 1863. As Amsterdam has a large Surinamese community, every year liberty, equality and solidarity is celebrated at this festival. With over 100 food and non food stalls you for sure won’t go hungry. Don’t miss out on Surinamese BBQ, Bara and Soato. The entrance is free.

4. Robeco SummerNights

This summer it’s all about the Robeco SummerNights at the Concertgebouw (Concert building). It’s perfect for the music lover. The Robeco SummerNights are wonderful concerts, from classical to jazz and from cabaret to film scores. It’s a magical beginning of the summer with international soloists, orchestras and unique cooperations.

5. July dance

After some music, what about some dancing? July dance is an international festival for contemporary dance. See the masters and enfant terrible dance in theaters like the Stadsschouwburg, the Melkweg and Vondelpark open air theater.

6. Urban Sports Week Amsterdam

Urban sports are having their moment. At Urban Sports Week Amsterdam you can watch all kind of urban sports like skateboarding, BMX, inline skating, dancing and many more. You can even participate at some of these sports. Of course great food and good music is accounted for.

7. A day at the park

The tenth and final edition of A day at the park is going to be spectacular. Think of music, entertainment, food, you name it. Dance at the silent disco, sing Kar-a-oké or take a ride at the carousel. For the ones who love to shop: there even is a festival market.

8. Hortus Festival

Amsterdam has got a beautiful botanical garden; the Hortus Botanicus. This summer you can enjoy some classical music over there. Combine nice surroundings with some living room music at the Hortus Festival and you will have a cozy evening. It is the Dutch greenest summer festival.

9. Zoomernigths

Feel like dancing between flamingos? It’s possible in Artis Amsterdam Zoo! Every Saturday in June, July and August, Artis opens until sunset for Zoomernights. On these special summer nights there are live performances from famous artists. You can also have a picnic or a BBQ. Beware the monkeys won’t eat you sandwich!
