1. Amsterdam Light Festival
In the dark winter months, Amsterdam transforms into a true city of lights with the start of the Amsterdam Light Festival. At the annual Amsterdam Light Festival both the residents of Amsterdam and the city’s many visitors are treated to a spectacle of light. This festival is for everyone, young and old. Whether you take a boat tour over the Amsterdam’s famous waterways or the walking tour to enjoy the Amsterdam Light Festival, you won’t get disappointed as it’s a great way to explore the city from a different angle.

We all know Santa Claus; the man with the red suit and white beard from the North Pole. In Holland, we also have Sinterklaas (Saint Nicholas). He has a red suit and white beard too, but he’s from Spain and comes a little bit earlier, i.e. on the 5th of December. At night, he rides over the roofs with his horse Amerigo and brings presents to the children. In the weeks prior to 5 December, there are multiple activities in the city, in stores and public areas to celebrate Sinterklaas.

3. Masters of LXRY

4. 90 Years Ms. Monroe
This year Marilyn Monroe would have turned 90 if it were not for her tragic death in 1962. At the exhibition 90 Years Ms. Monroe at the De Nieuwe Kerk you have the opportunity to learn more about the life of this style icon. Many of Marilyn’s belongings which are exhibited were bought by Ted Stampfer at an auction at Christie’s. Go and have a look at her brushes, film posters and the famous white dress.

5. Christmas Markets
Up for some Christmas shopping or just wanting to get into the Christmas mood? Go and visit the many Christmas markets of Amsterdam. You can find one for everyone’s taste. There is a Christmas Fair Market, a Local Goods Christmas Market, a Christmas Evening Market, even a Funky Xmas Market. Drink some Mulled wine of hot chocolate and enjoy the live music!

6. Miks Pop-up shop
Christmas time means gifts for friends and family. Mik has gathered the nicest presents from the local stores from the East of Amsterdam. Everything under one roof is quite easy and it is all priced under €25,-. Can’t wait? They also open from 25 to 27 November for the special Sinterklaas edition.

7. Late Tea At The Amstel hotel
Start your weekend at the most prestigious hotel of Amsterdam, the Amstel Hotel, for a late tea. The late tea is a variation on the high tea. 9. New Year’s Eve
From a dance event to a costumed ball, from a free family event to an outrageous theme party; Amsterdam has got it all on New Year’s Eve. Through the whole city there are multiple festivities. Most events start at 9:30pm and end in the early hours. The national countdown is at the Oosterdok. Where are you going to pop the champagne and celebrate the start of 2017?
